Radio Transmitter and Receiver:
In order to get a reliable and well functioning plane you will need a good kit to begin with otherwise you might end up with a faulty plane that might crash. Some good companies include Futaba, Airtronics, HiTec and Tactic.
If you own multiple planes, you can choose to have one transmitter and two receivers, that way you can control two planes with one receiver. Each receiver has different channels. Most have 4, which are used to control different parts of the plane like the throttle, ailerons, rudder, and elevator.
They are installed in the receiver to control the throttle, rudder and flaps. Just like the radio transmitter, invest in a good servo to build a good quality aircraft model.
Power for your Airplane
- Electric: If you choose to power your airplane with batteries, you might end up with a lighter aircraft. Electrics are quite, cheap airframe, clean and easy to transports due to smaller size but larger one are pricey and require a lot of attention. Electric planes will save weight and give you more air time and performance. Choose a lithium polymer or Li-Po battery which is light and is the best in the market but these batteries are highly flammable, so cover in a Li-Po sack when charging which is flame proof. In case of a crash, remove the batteries and put them on the ground for half an hour.
- Nitro or Gas Powered: These engines are more powerful as they use a combination of nitro-methane alcohol mixture to power. You can either use a two stroke engine or a four stroke engine. The four stroke engine provides more torque and fuel economy but is more expensive. Gas engines use larger airframes so you get longer flight times but they are noisy, oily, and require engine maintenance.

There are many ready to fly models available in the market. Decide on what type of aircraft you want. An electric trainer will cost you around $200 to $350 depending on the number of batteries. A gas trainer will cost you $300 with radio and support equipment.
